Diagnosis and Management of Kidney Stones

At the present time, management of kidney stones has reached an all time technologic peak. The patient presenting with a kidney stone now has available not only a procedure known as lithotripsy (a non-invasive process which breaks up the stones inside the patient), but also ureteroscopic extraction of the stone combined with the use of a laser which fragments and vaporizes the stones. This endoscopic procedure has become state-of-the-art.

The patient with recurrent stones can receive an extensive metabolic evaluation in our urology practice including bloodwork, 24-hour urine collections and stone analyses. The consultation with a Delaware Valley Urology physician afterwards is directed at preventing stones from forming in the future, therefore preventing further illness. The outlook for stones has improved remarkably over the last ten years and we are on the cutting edge regarding new technology and management of these rather difficult problems for patients.
